What Happened
Intuit launched a wave of AI-native features in August 2026, centred on its Intuit Intelligence engine. The headline features are Portfolio Summary (in beta), which displays a firm's client portfolio at a glance to help prioritise advisory time, and expanded AI anomaly detection that automatically flags unusual transactions and trends before they impact a close or client conversation.
This represents Intuit's shift from incremental automation to agentic AI—systems that suggest actions and priorities rather than just processing data.
Why It Matters
For accountancy practices serving SME and Ltd company clients, anomaly detection is a client-value story. Flagging an unexpected spike in supplier payments, a sudden rise in travel expenses, or a mismatch between cash and sales gives you time to contact the client before the close. It also surfaces tax risks: unusual income sources, over-claimed allowances, or payroll anomalies can be caught earlier.
Portfolio Summary helps practice partners allocate time where advisory fees are highest, or where clients need the most support. This is a profitability multiplier for larger practices.
What to Do
If you use Intuit Accountant Suite, check whether you have these features in your account. Test anomaly detection on a recent client close to see what it catches. For practices still on older Intuit or QuickBooks versions, this is a signal that agentic AI is now table stakes in the mid-market. Consider a technology review with your advisory team to see if a migration is justified for your client base.
